Ludvig Mathias Lindeman (1812-1887) and Peter Lindeman (1858-1930) are father and son. Norwegian composers and organists. They worked together on 36 fantasies and fugues. Peter composed the fantasies and Ludvig Mathias the fugues. The aim was to enrich the worship repertoire. Peter wrote that these pieces could be performed in many different ways. Only the fantasy or the fantasy with the fugue included and a repeat of the fantasy in a different registration.
For no. 16 I played the fantasy twice, before and after the fugue, with a slightly different registration. Main reason: I like the fantasy very much, it's very lyrical with beautiful lines.
In general I like the fantasies more than the fugues in this bundle. Sometimes the playful fantasy doesn't combine nicely with the strict fugue, as is also the case here.
Nevertheless, I choose to add the fugue here. See it as an adagio-part, or something like that.
