Canon Marcel Courtonne (1883-1954) was organist at Nantes cathedral beetween roughly 1925-1954 ; he had Vierne as a teacher
. This toccata was published when Courtonne was 18 (and not yet a Canon, I suppose :-)). It ends ppp, which is quite an exception among French toccatas !!!
During the 1920-1970 period, a good deal of French cathedral organists were priests, and composed for the organ. Their music is now largely forgotten, but often pleasing and well crafted. I'll try to upload more examples.
Two other uploads of music by these priests-organists-composers :
another one by Courtonne , played by Palsorgel
