I listened to DominiqueD's rendition of this after I had recorded my own and found a big difference in tempo. There's no indication in the sheet music as to tempo. But the piece reminded me of Bach's "Erbarm dich" choral prelude and also Bach's transcription of the adagio from Marcello's oboe concerto in D. So that's the kind of mood and pacing I was going for. This piece is written in 9/8 time, however; and I frequently find myself at a bit of a loss with respect to tempo if there's no indication in the notation. So maybe I'm just playing this way too slowly.
