Hyfrydol is the popular Welsh hymn tune that "Come Thou Long Expected Jesus," among others, is set to. So I've prepared this for the Advent time. Hyfrydol's melody is by R.H. Prichard (1811-87), and this setting by Vaughan Williams appeared in 1920. Unlike the meditative arrangements I've found on "Come Thou Long Expected Jesus," RVW's setting is celebratory and festive.
Technical aspects of this recording:
1) I performed it on Petr Grabowski's Chorzow sample set, which is a German Romantic organ. (I don't own a good English Romantic organ sample set yet.)
2) I used 100% close and front microphone settings (a.k.a. a wet sample).
3) Articulation wise, I prefer a legato approach. This proves to be particularly difficult to achieve 100% of the way through in all voices, though I managed a decent legatissimo when I couldn't play truly legato.
4) I had to settle for using the same pedal registration throughout the mezzo forte and the forte sections. (I just could not manage to get the registers switched by myself without messing everything up on all the manual changes while recording.) I think I found a good compromise where it's not too big for the mezzo forte sections and not too small for the forte ones.
