This suite was inspired by the dramatic and large-scale ruins of Fountains Abbey, a former Cistercian monastery in North Yorkshire, England (near Ripon).
English composer Tim Knight (b. 1959) was born in Northallerton and started his musical life as a chorister at York Minster under Francis Jackson. Knight composed his first piece of music at age 8 and in the years since has held a very active career as a composer/arranger, choral director, music publisher, and clinician.
