Composer: Dupré, Marcel
Sample Set: Regensburg Dom and Aristide N°1
Software: Hauptwerk VII
Genre: Post-romantic, impressionist
Description:
Regensburg 0:00
Aristide 8:14

Dupré composed « Evocation, poème symphonique » in 1941. It’s dedicated to his father’s, Albert Dupré, memory. It intends to evoke the three aspects of is father : “worried” in the 1st movment, “tender” in the 2nd, “proud” in the 3rd one (which is recorded here).
The 3rd part, Allegro deciso, is an edgy and hectic piece. It has nevertheless two quiet inner parts which quote themes from the 1st and the 2nd movements of Evocation. The second quiet part is very peculiar, elusive, and it gives the same sensation as sailing a boat in a thick mist : no landmark, as in the middle of nowhere.
I hesitated about the sample set : Regensburg or Aristide (Dupré’s father was St-Ouen’s organist and Dupré junior premiered the work at St-Ouen). Unable to choose, I tried both. The upload is a mix of several takes, but this piece is really an endless succession of technical troubles ; so….

I discovered Evocation 49 years ago and have dreamed to play it during as many years. May be it would have been wiser to remember that dreams are made to be dreamed and not to be realized....:-) :-)
