| Description: | Louie White (1921-1979) was Assoc. professor of Music at Rutgers, teaching composition, conducting orchestration and opera workshop. He wrote only a few pieces for organ, among them a set of 3 reflections on Southern Hymn tunes, of which this is the first. The pieces are dedicated to John Rose, and I first heard the 2nd of the set in a concert John gave in South Bend, Indiana back in 1992 or 93. The music was only briefly in print, and very hard to find, but I came across a used copy in a sale of redundant music. This particular arrangement is a 3-part canon - the melody tumbles over itself in varied and interesting ways with contrasting warm registration, finally ending softly. |
