| Description: | Herman Berlinski (Leipzig, Germany, 18 August 1910 – Washington D.C., 27 September 2001) was a German-born American composer, organist, pianist, musicologist and choir conductor. He wrote a number of pieces for organ, among them several Sinfonias (maybe not what one might expect for an organ symphonie, but still....) The 2nd sinfonia was actually published in 2 volumes, the first 2 movements in "Two Preludes for the High Holy Days", the last 3 in "Three Preludes for the Festivals. This second movement is a passacaglia, building from pp to a fierce tutti, ends quietly and mysteriously as it began. The big Northrop A-S works well for this movement. I hope you enjoy this is dedicated fondly to David aka Agnus_Dei.
WARNING - this starts pretty softly but builds to a fierce tutti... about halfway through the movement. You might want to be careful with your playback level! |
