3 Spirituals - #1 Deep River

James R. Gillette was a municipal organist in Evansville, IN. He wrote three of these arrangements of spirituals in 1919. The Wangerin is perfect for realizing the colors the composer asks for - many of the instruments he would have been familiar with would have had similar resources.

This is likely to be one of my last posts for awhile - we are packing up the remainder of our stuff and moving, I have no idea when things will return to some semblance of normal.... [chuckle]

I had a couple of these pieces already recorded, so I though I might post now before the computer gets taken down.
