Description:

The first organ in the church was built 1698 from the Salzburg organ builder Christoph Egedacher. Johann Konrad Brandenstein from Stadtamhof built 1738 a new organ with the existing facade, using most of Egedacher's stops, but giving them a larger scale for more foundation. Also a choir organ was installed in the south wall of the choir stalls (built by Wenzl Stark).
After secularisation the Brandenstein organ was replaced 1864 by an instrument from the Nuremberg organ builder Augustin Bittner. However, as the choir windows broke shortly afterwards, the organ was heavily exposed to the elements and deteriorated rapidly. Various repair measures only brought temporary relief, so that the company Binder & Siemann from Munich was commissioned to build a new organ in 1914. This was given 44 stops on three manuals and pedal and was equipped for the first time with an electric blower, a stop and two blind swells. The specification was very fundamental in keeping with the sound of the time. Due to the First World War, financing the new building caused major problems and dragged on until after the war.
In the 1960s the fundamental organ tone was not longer en vogue, and Alfons Zeilhuber from Altstädten rebuilt the organ with more higher pitched stops. Also a new choir organ with 21 stops was built.
Thanks to the organ-loving parish priest Vitus Pschierer the Pfaff company from Überlingen (Lake Constance) rebuilt the organ again to five manuals and the main organ to mechanical action. In 1983, now by Jann, the organ was further extended, especially the choir organ with a Fern- and a Bombarde division. In 1992 and 1993 two new identical consoles with six manuals were installed, one with mechanical action on the gallery, the other electric one in the nave. Thanks to a hydraulic system it can even climb steps and therefore be placed anywhere in the church.
Now the organ system has 103 stops, a new stop with glass pipes is planned.
