This Cornet Voluntary is inspired by English keyboard music of the mid 18th century (the Georgian era), exemplified in the organ voluntaries of John Stanley or William Walond. As with many English voluntaries of that time, the work is in two parts: a slow section followed by a faster one with a cornet solo.
Instead of a Cornet, I used the Hörnle on the Weigle organ. It is an interesting stop; a mix of a Cornet (but lighter) and a Sesquialter (but stronger). You can also find it on organs of organ builder Holzhey etc.
Exact registrations:
- Adagio molto:
Hauptwerk: Praestant 8'
- Allegro moderato:
Hauptwerk (rh): Praestant 8', Holzflöte 4', Hörnle II
Rückpositiv (lh): Gedackt 8', Hohlflöte 4'
At the end the Praestant 8' appears as solo stop again, as a reminder of the earlier Adagio molto part.
