ENGLISH TRANSLATION:
1 We thank you, Lord Jesus Christ,
that you died for us
and made us, through your precious blood,
righteous and good in the sight of God.

2 And we pray to You, truly Man and truly God,
by your holy five bloody wounds,
that You deliver us from eternal death,
and comfort us in our last hours.

3 Protect us also from sin and shame,
and extend to us your almighty hand,
so that we may patiently bear our cross,
and be comforted through your deep agony.

4 And let us have this confidence
that you will never leave us,
but will always stand faithfully with us
until we pass through the cross into eternal life.

GERMAN CHORALE TEXT:
1. Wir danken dir, Herr Jesu Christ,
daß da für uns gestorben bist
und hast uns durch dein theures Blut
Gemacht vor Gott gerecht und gut.

2. Und bitten dich, wahr Mensch und Gott,
durch dein heilig fünf Wunden roth,
erlös uns von dem ewgen Tod
und tröst uns in der letzten Noth.

3. Behüt uns auch vor Sünd und Schand,
reich uns dein allmächtige Hand,
daß wir im Kreuz geduldig sein,
uns trösten deiner schweren Pein.

4. Und draus schöpfen die Zuversicht,
daß du uns werd'st verlassen nicht,
sondern ganz treulich bei uns stehn,
bis wir durchs Kreuz ins Leben gehn.
