Julien-Fernand Vaubourgoin (1880-1952) was a French composer, student of Dupre and eventually head of the Bordeaux Conservatoire. He wrote a fair amount of music, very little of it was ever published. Among his works are 3 Symphonies for organ, fine late romantic/impressionist works. I became aware of them while doing research for my Organ Symphony book, and managed to track down #2 and 3, then eventually received the 1st symphonie after being put in touch with the grandson of the composer.
I scored this movement from the manuscript copy, and present it here - I'm fairly sure the work has only been heard a few times, most likely not recently. Incidentally, I also uploaded a movement from the 3rd Symphony about 15 years ago - I was privileged to give what I believe to be the US premiere of it also back in 2015, right about this time of year.
This upload marks my 500th - I felt it fitting to share this work as a part of this milestone - if you were to look back on those uploads, you'd see I have a fondness for obscure and neglected repertoire, so I felt like this was an appropriate way to celebrate.
