Langlais composed the "Huit pièces modales" in 1956. As far as I know, they are very seldom played. They don't use any gregorian neither popular theme, which doesn't happen that often in Langlais' output.
This one is a peaceful - but not static - at all piece which alternates serene garlands on a bourdon 8' accompanied by modal chords on a Salicional, and harmonic interludes on the salicional alone. Just 3 stops : bourdon, salicional, subass 16', no couplers.
It would deserve to be titled "Arabesque", peculiarly in its last part (from
03:00 ).
Regensburg's bourdon 8' from HW is very singing and, Imho, perfect for this piece.
